The Thoroughbreds years of 1974 to 1978 meant that we had gone through two FIFA World Cups while we were at SMSPerlis. FIFA World Cup 1974 was held in Germany. During the finals, West Germany beat The Netherlands 2-1. No wonder McPie like Der Bomber so much, Hisham loved to sketch Puma-striped soccer boots (worn by Johann Cryuff) all over his exercise books and I don't remember how many of us worn the jerseys of Germany and Netherlands at that time. Those were the days...
FIFA World Cup 1978 was held in Argentina. It was our MCE/SPM examinations year, but that doesn't stop us from watching it. What I noticed about the influence of World Cup 1978 on us, the throughbreds are, how much we love the country of Argentina. Argentinian-style soccer, Mario Kempes look-a-like, the song "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" (Hasan, please include this song in our Hit List) and Hisham had stopped drawing soccer boots but started to draw soccer balls (please refer to the emblem below to get to understand what I meant).
